G - WASP Ground Wide Area Surveillance Platform
In today's uncertain world, where security threats are often difficult to predict, advance warning is critical to military and civil defence. G-WASP Wide Area Surveillance Platform provides the key to ensuring that intrusion threats to base perimeters are detected and communicated as early as possible in order that appropriate responses can be initiated without delay
  • 360° coverage, 24 hours a day and in all weather conditions.
  • Self-contained, compact system that can be deployed for over 40 days without re-supply.
  • Fully operational in under 30 minutes.
  • Mast-mounted optronic sensor head cued by a detection sensor for automatic threat alerting includes: TI camera, TV camera, Laser Range Finder and Laser Pointer.
  • Detection sensors include radar, acoustic or visual.
  • Automatic information on position and bearing.
  • Rugged control suite capable of being remote from the system.
  • Control suite includes displays for imagery and Geographical Information System
G-WASP provides a rapidly deployable, scaleable, trailer-based Force Protection system that can be towed by a wide range of vehicles. G-WASP can be deployed and made operational in under 30 minutes of arrival at the location requiring a surveillance and protection capability. The optronic sensor head and detection sensor are mounted on a pneumatic mast to allow visual obstructions to be overcome. The system can be operated by a single person and the integrated control and monitoring suite can be situated remotely from the trailer sub-system, fully exposed to the external environment.

G-WASP requires no ground preparation at the location of use and is fully self sustainable for a mission of over 40 days. G-WASP reduces the workload on the operator by automatically providing the location and bearing of the system on a Geographic Information System (GIS). The field of view of the visual sensors and the output from the detection sensors are also shown overlaid on the GIS. G-WASP can be set up in automatic mode, where the detection sensors cue the optronic sensor head, or can be controlled manually by the operator. A number of G-WASP trailers can be networked together to create a "virtual fence".

The optronic sensor head also includes a Laser Range Finder (LRF) to provide the grid location of points of interest and a laser pointer to highlight objects of interest to colleagues on the ground. G-WASP continuously records the output from the TV and TI cameras, the GIS information and the metadata, such as date, time and location. This means that meaningful information can be retained for use at a later date

G-WASP is extremely modular, which eases replacement of Line Replaceable Units (LRU) and also supports future upgrade of the system with products such as Unattended Ground Sensors (UGS) and effectors.

Domination of ground; For optimum effect G-WASP-25’s positioning is dependent upon terrain analysis or tactical evaluation by the local commander making best use of its sensor suite. With its radar, optics, HFI and UGS G-WASP-25 provides the electronic picture for its ‘area of interest’ especially at night with its electronic triggers and TI camera. It can be integrated with aerial assets if available either fixed wing, helicopter or UAV and can also be used as a node for communications intercept or Direction Finding.

Detect the unusual; G-WASP-25’s situational awareness software capability enhances operations by providing the ‘pattern of life’ for the area it has under surveillance. Activity or sequence of activity that deviates from the assessment of the normal could provide a ‘combat indicator’ upon which an operation could be mounted. Late night activity at a dwelling or locals taking a different route through the fields are the types of unusual event that have prompted further investigation for IED’s or early morning raids.

Disrupt the enemy; With rapid response to events or targeted patrolling and ambushes prompted by analysis of the information G-WASP-25 provides, the security forces can soon seize the initiative in an area and disrupt enemy’s plans, confidence and thinking.

Defeat at the tactical level; Coordinated, responsive, aggressive and well planned, intelligence-led use of G-WASP at the zone and sector level will lead to tactical defeat for the terrorist, criminal or smuggler. When they no longer possess the initiative, lose their freedom of manoeuvre and find themselves having to operate in an environment hostile to them, take unacceptable risk and lose men and material to the security forces their morale and motivation will lessen.
